Year 1 Becoming Phonics Superstars
Year 1 pupils have been busy developing their phonics skills this week through a range of exciting and interactive activities designed to build confidence in reading, spelling, and writing.
Pupils worked hard to practise reading both real and nonsense words, while also focusing on spelling the Year 1 common exception words. Learning was brought to life through lots of practical and engaging challenges, including popping word balloons after successfully reading words to a partner, fishing for tricky word magnets, and sorting real and nonsense words.
Pupils also practised writing words containing split digraphs and enjoyed taking part in an energetic phonics obstacle race, combining active learning with teamwork and problem-solving.
It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm, focus, and determination from the class throughout the week. Fantastic work, Year 1 you are becoming true phonics superstars!
