Year 1 Build, Create and Learn

Year 1 have enjoyed another busy and exciting week of learning, with plenty of opportunities to develop their skills across the curriculum. In Phonics, the children have been enjoying a catchy short vowel song to help them recognise and practise their vowel sounds. In Maths, they have been building their number skills by counting backwards from 10 and finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number.

In English, the children have continued their work on The Big Bad Wolf. They stepped into the wolf’s shoes and wrote letters to the Three Little Pigs, apologising for blowing down their houses and for frightening them with all his huffing and puffing! The children thought carefully about how the wolf might feel and what he would want to say to the pigs.

During Topic, Year 1 have been exploring homes and discovering that houses can come in many different shapes and styles. They painted pictures of their own homes and enjoyed building their own houses using Duplo and magnetic construction. There was plenty of creativity on display, with some truly wonderful mansions taking shape!

It has been fantastic to see the children learning with such enthusiasm and creativity throughout another action-packed week.
