U11 Triangular vs Bromsgrove & KSA

Mrs Butt’s Team 

The King’s Hawford U11 hockey team travelled away on a very warm afternoon to compete in a triangular tournament against Bromsgrove and King’s St Alban’s. Despite the challenging conditions and a demanding schedule of 60 minutes of hockey, the girls demonstrated outstanding determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the afternoon.

Mrs Butt was particularly impressed with the work rate and team cohesion shown by the entire squad. Playing a full hour of hockey tested the players’ fitness, but they continued to give maximum effort right through to the final whistle of the tournament.

The opening fixture against Bromsgrove was very much a game of two halves. Bromsgrove edged the first half, taking a one-goal advantage, but King’s Hawford responded brilliantly after the break. Vivienne proved to be the difference, producing two spectacularly struck goals to turn the game around. In goal, Tilly made several fantastic saves and clearances to keep her side in contention, while Simi and Ffion worked tirelessly in defence, making crucial tackles and clearances under pressure. For her outstanding attacking display and match-winning contribution, Vivienne was deservedly nominated Player of the Match by the opposition.

The second match against King’s St Alban’s was another closely contested encounter. The teams were level at half-time after an intense opening period. Aurelia delivered an exceptional all-round performance in midfield, covering almost every inch of the pitch and capping her display with a tremendous strike from the top of the area. Further forward, Amelie and Ellie H combined well in attack, creating several opportunities and both recording efforts on target. Amelie was particularly tenacious, applying relentless pressure to the KSA defence throughout the game. Aurelia’s energy, skill and goal-scoring contribution earned her the opposition’s Player of the Match award.

The tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for the girls to showcase their ability, teamwork and determination. Their positive attitude, commitment and willingness to work for one another were evident throughout a challenging afternoon of hockey, and the team can be extremely proud of their performances. Well done, girls!

Mrs Halpin’s team

The girls travelled to Bromsgrove to play a triangular fixture against Bromsgrove and King’s St Alban’s.

The girls worked incredibly hard against Bromsgrove, with our defence doing a fantastic job of clearing the ball and keeping the pressure off. Everyone put in a real effort and showed great determination throughout the game.

Player of the Match for the Bromsgrove game was Fliss, and this was very well deserved. She worked brilliantly in both attack and defence, showing great determination and putting in a fantastic all-round performance.

The match against King’s St Alban’s was very well balanced and really made the girls work hard. Our forwards worked well together, creating some lovely attacking play, while the defence enjoyed playing with a sweeper in front of them, which gave them more confidence and structure.

Player of the Match for the King’s St Alban’s game was Alanna, who had a fantastic afternoon. She enjoyed playing both in defence and up front, showing great versatility, effort and enthusiasm in both positions.

There are a number of areas for the girls to continue working on, particularly thinking about the space on the pitch and making sure they are getting their feet out of the way when challenging for the ball. These are great learning points for the team and will help them continue to develop their skills and understanding of the game.

Overall, it was a great afternoon of hockey, with the girls working hard, supporting each other and enjoying their hockey. Well done, girls!

U9 vs The Blue Coat School

Three U9 teams travelled to The Blue Coat School, Birmingham, for an enjoyable afternoon of hockey, providing the girls with another excellent opportunity to put their developing skills into practice in match situations.

Mrs Butt’s Team 1

The girls demonstrated some excellent team play throughout their matches. Trixie was solid in defence, making strong tackles and distributing the ball effectively from the back. Minnow showed her natural attacking instincts, linking well with Olivia L on numerous occasions to create attacking opportunities. Nancy contributed significantly across the midfield, providing valuable support and assisting Olivia P, who scored twice. Olivia P’s impressive performance earned her the opposition’s Player of the Match award.

Mrs Butt’s Team 2

The girls played some lovely hockey and showed clear progress from recent training sessions, particularly with their tackling. All the girls embraced the challenge of playing in a variety of positions and adapted well to their different roles.

Fifi and Matilda linked effectively in midfield with some well-timed passes, helping to maintain possession and build attacks. Poppy dominated play in midfield and initiated a wonderful move down the right-hand side to Iona, whose excellent cross found Elizabeth at the far post to score. Iona and Poppy also added superb goals of their own. Poppy’s outstanding display earned her the opposition’s Player of the Match award.

Miss Haldane’s Team

The team were involved in a hard-fought contest which finished in a well-deserved 2–2 draw. Elise and Mia were both on the scoresheet, showing great determination in attack to score their goals. Gracie made several strong tackles in defence, while Florence contributed to a number of promising attacking moves. Elise’s all-round performance was recognised by the opposition, who nominated her as Player of the Match.

Mrs Butt was delighted with the progress all three teams showed in their match play and was particularly pleased to see the girls applying skills learned in training to competitive situations.

Rugby

U11 Millfield with King’s St Alban’s

The U11s played in a tournament against Millfield in a combined team with their friends from King’s St Alban’s.

It was a fantastic afternoon of sport with both A and B teams played some sparkling rugby against some of the well-known rugby schools in the South West; Millfield, Kingswood and Blundells.

It was also a great opportunity for boys of all abilities to play in a series of competitive fixtures at their level. In addition, it was wonderful way for the boys to combine and spend time with children they will be in the same year as at King’s Worcester, for both social and sporting reasons.
