Year 1 Get Curious About Maths and Worcester
Year 1 have had a wonderfully curious week of learning, taking their Maths and Topic learning beyond the classroom and discovering new ways to explore the world around them.
In Maths, the children have been learning about greater than and less than, developing their understanding of how numbers compare. They took their learning outside to Forest School, where they used sticks and other natural resources to create their own greater-than and less-than signs. It was fantastic to see the children working together, experimenting with different materials and using their problem-solving skills in a fun and practical way.
Curiosity and discovery have been at the heart of the week, with ‘curious’ and ‘discover’ featuring as some of the children’s Words of the Day. These linked beautifully with our Foundations 3 words as the children explored the human and physical features of Worcester. Using Google Earth, they zoomed in from the UK to Worcester, exploring the city in greater detail and developing their understanding of the place they call home.
It has been a wonderful week of curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning, with Year 1 showing great enthusiasm as they explored, questioned and made connections across their learning.
