Young Musicians Take Centre Stage at Informal Concert

King’s Hawford’s talented young musicians took centre stage yesterday for the first informal concert of the academic year, treating a large audience to a wonderful celebration of music.

Children from Years 2 to 6 presented a varied programme of 24 performances, featuring piano, harp, voice, guitar, violin, trumpet, trombone, drum kit, flute and toot. Younger performers opened the concert with pieces including James F’s piano performance of Spooky Wood Hollow, Aryana W’s harp rendition of Hot Cross Buns & Row, Row, Row, William S playing Buccaneer Bobby on the piano and Myla Mae H performing Wooden Shoe Dance on the harp.

The audience also enjoyed Ottillie D and Rose T’s vocal duet of The Skye Boat Song, Olivia P singing Stay Awake from Mary Poppins, Sylvie P performing Holst’s Jupiter on trumpet and Edward R playing The Bare Necessities on trombone. Contemporary and musical-theatre favourites featured too, with Finlay M performing Coldplay’s Yellow on drum kit, Bonnie W singing Mister Mistoffelees and Georgia P performing Maybe from Annie. The concert concluded in suitably dramatic style with Rupert C’s drum solo and Isaac H playing the James Bond Theme on trumpet.

The concert showcased the abundance of musical talent across the school and offered an exciting glimpse of the performances still to come this year. Our thanks go to Hawford’s dedicated peripatetic music teachers for their continued support and encouragement, as well as to parents for nurturing the children’s music-making at home.
