Children Experience a World of Flavour for Good Food Week
King’s Hawford children enjoyed a delicious journey around the world as the school celebrated Good Food Week, with exciting international dishes, tasting opportunities and an important focus on sustainability.
Each day, school lunches were inspired by the flavours and traditions of Portugal, Sri Lanka, Italy, Brazil and South Korea. The themed menus encouraged children to try something new and discover how food can offer a fascinating insight into different cultures.
Special tasting tables added to the experience, giving children further opportunities to explore a variety of flavours and ingredients.
The week also provided plenty of food for thought. During Friday’s Celebration Assembly, Lizzie from Thomas Franks spoke about the work done by the company’s Sustainability Team and explained why reducing food waste matters.
Children learned about the amount of food wasted across the UK, the impact this has on the environment and the practical steps that individuals and the school community can take to make a positive difference.
The message built on themes explored in Monday’s Harvest assembly led by Rev Rich, which highlighted the support that food banks provide to families facing difficulties. Children were encouraged to value the food they have, avoid unnecessary waste and think carefully about the choices they make.
The week was a wonderful celebration of taste, culture and responsible eating, inspiring the children to be adventurous with food while considering how small changes can help protect the planet and support others.
