Year 6 Explore Worcestershire’s First World War Stories

Year 6 children became historians for a First World War workshop exploring how the conflict affected people across Worcestershire.

Led by a visiting member of the Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service’s Explore the Past team, based at The Hive in Worcester, the session brought original historical sources into school for pupils to investigate.

World War One Workshop

Newspaper articles, photographs and school log books offered insights into life on the Home Front. Pupils examined and interpreted the material, considering what each source revealed about local people’s experiences and the impact of the war on their daily lives.

The workshop encouraged the children to look beyond dates and events to consider the people behind the historical evidence. Year 6 participated superbly throughout, representing King’s Hawford with enthusiasm as they explored this important period of local history.
