A busy week of cricket
U8A mixed cricket v Winterfold
On Tuesday afternoon we invited Winterfold down to Slingpool Walk for a competitive cricket fixture in the sunshine. We started off well with some brilliant bowling. Nell picked up a few wickets with a two fantastic balls, both smashing into off stump. Edith’s consistent bowling led to Winterfold only scoring 3 runs off her 2 overs! Henry I impressed In the field, demonstrating a great throw to either the bowler and wicket keeper on a number of occasions. Romi, Martha and Ben D batted well and exhibited good commitment skills. We managed to chase down a good Winterfold score.
U8 Cricket v Winterfold
This week we have had the weather on our side and all of our fixtures with Winterfold have been fantastic. They have all been played with a great spirit of encouraging all the players to enjoy their cricket. This was an amazing afternoon with the U8 team. They have all made such a lot of progress from the start of term. The bowling is gaining accuracy and they are showing more confidence with the bat. Zack captained the team and had an excellent game, with some enthusiastic fielding and he hit every ball bowled at him. Kasvika bowled the over of the match with no extras and 2 wickets. Millie also should get a mention for her all-round performance. They won the match 262 to 248.
Well done, all!
U9/U8 B Team Cricket v Winterfold
This week the U9/U8 cricket team played against Winterfold at home on an overcast but mild day. King’s fielded first, and the players displayed excellent bowling skills, improving their technique as the innings went on. Freddie and George opened the batting and scored an excellent eighteen runs between them in three overs. George hit the only boundary of the day with a fine shot. Sophia and Rosie batted next and worked well together at the crease, scoring a few runs between them. The third batting pair was Isy and Emily who did well attacking the balls that were pitched wide of the stumps and played some lovely shots. Tilly and Rosie were the last batting pair, who communicating well together, but the team just came up short with Winterfold narrowly winning the game by eight runs. It was a great afternoon for all the players to practice and develop their skills in a competitive setting. Well done everyone!
U9 Cricket v Winterfold
Our U9s had a brilliant day at Winterfold, where they played some very positive cricket. We batted first and put on a strong performance. Our technique was good, but I was particularly impressed with the running, which was fast and effective. Our working point before the next game is our communication, as it was sometimes lacking in volume and confidence. In the field, the team was fantastic. Our bowling was solid, and I was impressed with Zara W, who bowled a good line and length consistently. Overall, the team demonstrated plenty of good cricket, and had an enjoyable afternoon outside. Well done team!
U9 Cricket v Winterfold
The U9B team had a great afternoon at Winterfold on Tuesday. We won the toss and elected to field first. There was some excellent bowling by the U9s, all bowled under arm and from the correct length. Harry B was superb at bowling length and had a very low scoring over. Harry B and Ivy threw the ball from a fair distance and ran two players out and Luca bowled one. When it was our turn to bat, there were some excellent hits from Harry B who scored a 4. Winterfold got a few more wickets than us so unfortunately, we narrowly lost the game. Well done all it was a very pleasant afternoon of cricket.
U11A Cricket v Winterfold
The U11A girls’ team played Winterfold on Wednesday afternoon. It was glorious and the girls were raring to go. We lost the toss so batted first. There were some excellent partnerships, particularly Erin and Eshal who were moving down the wicket in order to gain the extra distance and go for those single runs. The whole team were calling yes, no or wait and we talked about whose call it was at which end. There were 5 fours in the afternoon from Emily, Erin and Sienna C and Emily was named opposition’s batter of the match. After a quick drink’s break, it was our turn to field and bowl. Erin opened the bowling with some excellent, on target balls. There were 7 wickets in the afternoon from Erin (3), Ella (1), Ace (1), Lucy (1) and Sienna D (1). Well done to Erin who was awarded opposition’s bowler of the match. Winterfold didn’t match our total and therefore we won. It was an excellent afternoon of cricket I was very impressed with their attitude and commitment to the game, well done all!
U11B Girls v Winterfold
This was the first time I had seen some of these girls play in a match this year and I was so impressed with their progress. All of their bowling was far more consistent and far less extras were given away. Iman’s bowling has shown great progress and she captained the team well. Georgia P came in with Iman for the last three overs and she knew she had to score some runs. After hitting three 4’s we were in line for a win but unfortunately lost a wicket in the last over. The final score was KSA 316 – Winterfold 317. It couldn’t have been any closer!
U11 Boys RGS The Grange Cricket Tournament.
The U11 cricket team had a glorious day in the sun at Flagge Meadow. It was a full afternoon of 5 over matches, which meant fast paced and exciting cricket. Our first game was against Bablake School and saw us open the bowling well. Bablake hit a respectable score and we had the task of chasing. Our batting let us down in the first game, something that would only get better as the day progressed. After lunch we had RGS, who demonstrated some fine batsmanship. Our batting got off to a quick start, only slowing down towards the end. The fielding was mostly solid, but at times we were giving away unnecessary runs. The next game was Abberley Hall. Batting first, our openers started hitting well. Our batters found the boundary multiple times, and got our run rate off to a good start. I was impressed with the technique on display; the communication and running was fantastic. When it was our turn to bowl, the team bowled consistently with good line and length, limiting Abberly’s runs. The fielding was also much improved, and saw the boys put pressure on the opposition. It was nice to end the day off with a friendly but competitive game against King’s Hawford. We batted first and showcased some great shots. Our top order hit the boundary and ran well, leaving Hawford a decent score to chase. Our bowling was efficient and made it hard at first for the Hawford openers. Our fielding was also good, and skipper Ralphie D’s placement was superb. The Hawford openers got off the mark and away, ending a fun and thrilling match. All in all, it was a brilliant day, and one that all the boys enjoyed. Thank you to RGS the Grange for hosting and well done to all involved!
