A Curious Look at Pi in Monday’s Assembly

On Monday morning we were delighted to welcome Mr Hemming, a maths teacher from King’s Worcester, who led a fascinating and thought-provoking assembly for our pupils ahead of Pi Day this Saturday.

Mr Hemming began by introducing the number 3.14 and quickly explained that although it might sound like we were talking about pies, we were in fact exploring the mathematical concept of pi. The assembly was filled with fun and engaging dingbats — “say what you see” puzzles — which had the children thinking carefully and eagerly sharing their ideas.

Mr Hemming then went on to explain why the number 3.14 continues forever without ending, helping pupils understand one of the most interesting ideas in mathematics in a way that was both clear and memorable.

The key message he left the children with was a powerful one: just like the number pi never ends, our learning should never stop. By staying curious, asking questions and continuing to explore new ideas, we can keep learning throughout our lives.

We are very grateful to Mr Hemming for visiting and helping us celebrate Pi Day while inspiring our pupils with his enthusiasm for mathematics.
