A Hatch-tastic Adventure in Reception!
Egg-citement and curiosity filled our Reception classroom recently as the children embarked on an incredible learning adventure, they incubated their very own chicken eggs!
As part of this hands-on science project, our young learners were introduced to a real incubator, where carefully selected eggs will be kept safe and warm. Over the 21-day incubation period, the children will step into the role of mini scientists and caretakers, monitoring the eggs by checking and recording temperature and humidity levels, learning how to gently turn the eggs, and discussing what was happening inside those delicate shells.
This immersive project will offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the life cycle of a chicken, sparking deep interest and curiosity among the children. The classroom was full of excitement as pupils eagerly brainstormed names for the chicks and made thoughtful predictions about when they would hatch. This imaginative and scientific experience helped them engage with complex biological concepts in an age-appropriate way while nurturing a sense of care, responsibility, and empathy.
From observing tiny changes in the eggs to preparing a cosy space for the chicks’ arrival, the children are deeply engaged every step of the way. It’s been amazing to watch their confidence grow as they take ownership of this special project, working together as a team of responsible little scientists.
We look forward to sharing the next chapter in this adventure, when the eggs begin to crack and the chicks make their first appearance. It promises to be a truly memorable and magical moment for everyone involved!
