King's St Alban's

9 June

A super performance in the field.

U11A Cricket Tournament at RGS

What a brilliant day it was for the six boys who were taken to the RGS six-a-side tournament on Wednesday! A lot of cricket was played, which is brilliant for each player’s development. It was a format that most of the boys hadn’t played before and they soon realised that they had to score quickly, as each innings was only five overs long. Lex and Tommy impressed throughout the afternoon with their batting, Tommy scoring 85 in the five games and Lex scoring 69. Aiden and Harry also demonstrated powerful hitting, scoring a number of boundaries, including a massive six that Harry hit against RGS. Guy was brave behind the stumps, where he put his body on the line. Sam C continues his development with his impressive bowling action and kept the run rate down throughout.

It was a great day with six boys who are all keen to learn and improve on their skills and a good opportunity to work out exactly what we all need to work on during our games and clubs from now until the end of the year.

U10/U11A Cricket v Abberley School

This week the U10/11 B team played against Abberley in a very evenly matched game at King’s. King’s St Alban’s bowled first and displayed excellent fielding skills, with accurate throwing and catching skills to keep the batting score to a minimum. Eamon bowled the best over of the game, taking two wickets, and Ralphie, Harry and Peter each took a wicket with great bowling.

King’s St Alban’s batted well but needed to show more composure and communication at the crease. There were boundary hits from Ralphie, Daisy and also Jack, who was Captain for the game. Going into the last batting pair it was all to play for, but King’s St Alban’s narrowly lost, with Abberley taking a decisive wicket to win the game.

U11/U10D Mixed Cricket v Abberley

The children had a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday dodging a few heavy showers. We lost the toss so were in to bat first. There were some good single runs from batting pair Mia and Evie and a 4 hit by Emily. Best batter was awarded to Flo B and we totalled 298, which is a super score. Our fielding was excellent, we were focussed on quickly fielding the ball in which stopped some singles by the opposition. Our bowling was on point not giving away many extras. Wickets were taken by Evie and Erin (2) who was also awarded best bowler. We managed to keep Abberley’s score to less than ours, so a win. Well done all!
U10/11 Mixed Cricket v Abberley

What a super team performance! We batted first and this was by far the best performance this season, with the calling between the wickets being confident and clear and the team keen to make all the runs available. Well done to Barnaby J in particular, who scored an impressive 17. Our bowling was outstanding, only bowling six wides or no balls in the match. Elin bowled a maiden over and Lara a two-wicket maiden! We came alive in the field, with Adil diving to stop the ball and getting it in quickly to the bowler and a couple of catches also earning us extra runs. Overall this was a convincing victory.

U9B Girls’ Cricket v Malvern St James

The girls had a lovely afternoon playing their cricket match, practising their skills from the lessons. Aelwen hit a 4 and Florence was the best bowler, not giving anyway any extras. There were some good batting pairs of Aelwen and Suzie, Laura and Martha, and Charlotte and Alice. They all tried hard to bowl overarm and very few extras were given, excellent! We scored 267 to MSJ’s 237, so a win! Well done girls!

U9 Girls’ Cricket v Malvern St James

The progress that the Year 4 girls have made this term was very impressed to see . In the field they were alert and keen to get the ball in to the wicket. We batted first and everyone was keen to make the runs and each started to communicate well with their batting partner. Anna was our top scorer with the bat, hitting the first four of the match. The bowling was particularly pleasing, bowling very few wides or no balls. Helena was our bowler of the match, gaining two wickets in the last over of the match. We lost the match narrowly but this as a great performance from the team.
