A Wonderful Celebration of Chinese New Year

Our school was filled with excitement on Wednesday as pupils across different year groups came together to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Year 4 enjoyed a special treat as Iris delivered a fantastic presentation on the traditions of Chinese New Year. The class listened attentively as she explained the significance of Hong Bao (red envelopes), a cherished tradition symbolising good luck and prosperity. As a generous gesture, Iris’s family kindly gifted each Year 4 pupil their very own Hong Bao! Iris shared that they must keep the envelope sealed for 15 days, representing the full length of the celebrations. Our Year 4 pupils have eagerly accepted the challenge to keep their Hong Bao safe and unopened until the festivities conclude.

Meanwhile, Reception and Nursery joined together to learn about Chinese New Year through interactive activities. They had a wonderful time playing together in the Reception classroom before working collaboratively to make their own spring rolls. They also created a giant snake to hang up in Nursery, marking the Year of the Snake with a vibrant display.

Year 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Ling, who spoke to them about Chinese New Year and brought in fascinating artefacts for them to explore and play with. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we are incredibly grateful to Mrs Ling for sharing her time and knowledge with them.

A huge thank you to Iris for her insightful presentation and to her family for their generosity. We are also grateful to Mrs Ling for her visit and to all the staff who made this celebration so special.
