An Inspirational Visit from Severn Shield Team Captain
A group of excited pupils, ranging from Reception through to Year 6, eagerly waited as Phoebe W, captain of the King’s Worcester 1st XI Hockey Team, visited King’s St Alban’s to celebrate the recent Severn Shield victory. As an extra special treat, Phoebe brought along the winning trophy, which immediately captured the pupils’ imagination and sparked a buzz of excitement.
During her visit, Phoebe answered many thoughtful questions from our pupils. She explained what it felt like to be captain, describing the responsibilities of leading and motivating her teammates, as well as the importance of supporting friends on and off the pitch. Phoebe also shared that her journey was not always straightforward, she had moved between teams during her time at King’s St Alban’s and King’s Worcester, proving that dedication, perseverance and resilience are key to success. This honest insight offered a powerful and motivating example for our older pupils.
Mr Hooman, Director of Sport at King’s St Alban’s, reflected on the visit:
“Phoebe is a shining example of how passion, commitment, and teamwork can lead to remarkable achievements. Her journey shows our pupils that hard work and determination can open doors to incredible opportunities.”
The pupils were captivated, and the excitement of seeing the shield up close, combined with Phoebe’s stories and advice, made this a truly inspirational experience. Moments like these are invaluable, showing our young athletes the heights they can reach with dedication and perseverance.
We extend a huge thank-you to Phoebe for taking the time to visit and inspire the next generation, her generosity and encouragement will be remembered for a long time.
