Animals Galore for Year 1’s Rainforest Workshop

Year 1 had a fantastic time at their Rainforest Animal Workshop today. They were excited to see, and even hold, a variety of creatures including bearded dragons, tree frogs, corn snakes, giant millipedes, and a tortoise.

The children listened very carefully to Carla the animal handler and learned about where these animals live in the rainforest and what they like to eat. It was impressive to see the class apply their knowledge from their ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ topic this term, as they described different animal groups and confidently explained the differences between herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores.  As a special treat, even though the animals were not native to rainforests, Carla brought in Charlie the Chinchilla and a baby skinnypig for the children to see. The children demonstrated their curiosity about the natural world, asking lots of insightful questions about the animals they had encountered, and some definitely ventured out of their comfort zones. Well done, Year 1 on a fantastic rainforest workshop!
