Brilliant Bonfire Learning in Year 1

Year 1 have had a sparkling week of learning, filled with creativity, curiosity and colour, as they explored the theme of Bonfire Night across their lessons!

In their humanities lessons, the children travelled back in time to learn about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. They worked brilliantly to order the key events of this historic story, showing a great understanding of how and why we still celebrate Bonfire Night today. There were lots of “oohs” and “aahs” as they discovered fascinating facts about this explosive moment in history!

The theme continued in art, where pupils created stunning cityscapes and vibrant firework patterns. Using a mix of paint, pastels, and plenty of imagination, they brought the night sky to life with dazzling bursts of colour and sparkle.

In English, the children combined their spelling practice with a bang, using firework-themed common exception words to help them remember key spellings. They then put their senses to work to write beautiful Bonfire Night poems, describing the sights, sounds, and smells of the celebrations with fantastic vocabulary and expression.

It’s been a week bursting with learning, creativity and excitement, a true display of effort and enthusiasm from our Year 1 superstars!
