Building Strong Number Foundations in Reception
Reception have been working extremely hard in Maths this week. They have been developing a deep understanding of number and learning how to apply their number knowledge across a wide range of practical activities and games. Through these experiences, they have been encouraged to explore numbers, recognise quantities and build confidence in their mathematical thinking.
Reception class have particularly enjoyed using dice, playing a variety of number games and practising their subitising skills, helping them to recognise amounts quickly without counting. These activities have supported applying number knowledge in different contexts and have encouraged problem-solving, turn-taking and discussion.
As is typical in Reception, much of the learning has been practical and play based. It has been great to see such high levels of enthusiasm, with pupils eagerly engaging in activities and confidently demonstrating their developing skills and strong understanding.
