Another busy week for our sports teams

RGS The Grange U9 Netball Tournament – Mrs Clark

On Tuesday our U9 girls played in the RGS The Grange Netball Tournament. Twelve Schools entered the tournament, which was split into two groups. They had two convincing wins in their first two games against The Downs and Malvern St James. They then narrowly lost the next two matches against RGS and Warwick Prep. The game against Warwick was extremely tight and came down to a last second goal from Warwick. Going into our final game against Winterfold we knew there was still a chance we could come second in our group and qualify for the semifinal. They were tired but played their hearts out to get the win.

In the semifinal we came up against a strong Bluecoat team. Our girls really worked hard but unfortunately lost 6-3.

An amazing effort from these girls and some excellent passing, defending and shooting skills demonstrated throughout the afternoon.

Emma G “When I played GK it was so much fun and we made it to the semifinal!”

Madie “I really enjoyed playing as a team, I had a great afternoon and I think we played really well”.

Charlotte H “I loved playing all the different Schools as well as watching other matches,  it was an amazing experience”.

Skye “It was an outstanding experience and I was super proud of our team when we heard the news that we had got through to the semifinal!”

Zara “It was an incredible and intense afternoon, we got very tired, the best part is to stay until the end while 8 Schools went home and we had made it through to the semifinal!”

Marnie “We had a great time, we had so much fun. We played so many games and got through to the semifinal!”

U9/8 v The Downs – Mr Hooman

We welcomed the Downs to Slingpool Walk for our U9 football fixture. It was a thrilling, competitive game, with end to end football throughout. Will B was excellent in central midfield, showing a fantastic work rate to win the ball and launch the KSA attack. Archie B used his pace to make runs in behind the defence and came agonisingly close on several occasions. Another standout was Ben J, who commanded the defence and organised  his teammates. Louie F was in goal for the entirety of the game, and dived on both sides to keep the ball out of the net. This was definitely the boys best performance of the season. Well done boys!

U9/8 v The Downs – Mr Russell

For this week’s fixture the U9/U8 hosted The Downs in a thrilling match that was very evenly matched. Che-David and Jasper kindly played a half each for the opposition as they were a little short on players, and they both thoroughly enjoyed playing for both teams! Crispin had a great game in defence and is starting to read the game very well from the back line. Alban continued to play well in midfield and came very close to scoring. Ben and Zach played further forward in the team this week and displayed great effort and determination throughout the game. Henry played up front and covered almost every inch of the field, and also got back to help his teammates defend. Albert and Brody displayed good goalkeeper skills, playing a half each in goals, and Albert pulled off an excellent second half penalty save. Well done boys!

U11/10 ISFA Football Tournament at Repton – Mr Hooman

The U11/10 boys travelled up to Repton School for the ISFA Football tournament. Throughout the day the boys had to cope with the biting cold and heavy snow. The team was placed in a tough group, with strong opposition such as: The Elms Nottingham; Leicester Grammar School; Wolverhampton Grammar School; Bluecoat Birmingham and RGS the Grange. Theo S did well in the net, making vital saves and distributing the ball well.Sam T, Will D and Peter U were solid at the back. Sam T and Will D made some important tackles to stop the oppositions attack. Peter U was crucial to starting the KSA build up play, he also made some fantastic long passes over the top of the opposition defence. Monty E, Joshua R and Rook T orchestrated the attack by taking the ball to the opposition and using their feet to beat defenders. Ralphie D was a continuous presence up front, making great runs onto the ball. A special mention goes to Harry B, who was our outstanding player of the tournament. Harry B was everywhere, placing pressure on the opposition defence, while also tracking back to assist the back line. The boys thoroughly enjoyed a day of football, and we hope to build on this experience in training and for the rest of the season. Well done to all the boys.

IAPS Swimming Regional Qualifiers

Another fantastic swimming event held at Millfield Prep School. On a snowy morning in Worcester we took 16 swimmers down to the IAPS Qualifying Round. There was great excitement when we arrived and a rumbling of nerves.

The relays were first and we were particularly impressed with our U10 girls, who came first in both the medley and freestyle heats.

Well done to Helena who came first and to James who came second in their backstroke individuals and to all our swimmers who gave their all in all of their events.
