Captivating Castle visit brings history alive
Year Two had a wonderful trip to Warwick Castle on Monday, as part of their History studies. As always, excitement was high as the children departed from school, bound for the famous castle.
The children started their trip by being greeted by a knight on horseback; they then enjoyed a tour of the castle and its grounds. One of their first stops was the dungeon and the whole group carefully descended the spiral staircase into the damp and dingy depths! Some of the children were a little nervous, but all agreed that it was incredibly interesting to see where prisoners would have been held. The Kingmaker exhibit enthralled the children, as they took time to look at statues of the king and his army preparing for battle.
One of the highlights of the trip was the birds of prey display. The children watched an array of birds of prey, including a sea eagle, barn owl, condor and many more! The best part for the children was the birds swooping low over many of their heads! After lunch, the group had a look around the Time Tower, where they learnt about the history of Warwick Castle.
All of the children felt they had really accomplished something by climbing the spiral staircase to the top of the tallest tower in the castle, the Guy Tower, tackling a total of 530 steps! It was tiring, but the view at the top was certainly worth it. Careful planning by their teachers meant that there was just enough time left at the end of the day to enjoy some fun-filled play in the castles very own Zog Playland, which all the children thoroughly enjoyed. Year Two had a splendid day at Warwick Castle; it really did bring all of their learning about castles alive.
