There was plenty to celebrate in assembly in our final assembly of the spring term. Year 3 and Year 4 made up the audience in The Barn and were quite put out to discover that that the seats were out of action due to “an accident” the previous evening. Staff explained that all of the rows had been treated with a special bleach and therefore the children would need to stand to protect their uniform. The children soon saw the funny side when Mr Stigant explained that the teachers had actually played an April Fool’s trick on them all and they could in fact sit down.
With the children in The Barn comfortably seated, Mr Stigant kicked off the assembly with an introduction to Spread A Smile Day. He explained the importance of a smile and how every pupil at King’s Hawford had a superpower. They could all make others happy simply by smiling, which in turn makes others happy with the release of endorphins.
Michelle Z got the endorphins flowing with a beautiful and mature performance of Serenade an ABRSM Grade 7 violin piece by the Spanish composer Gaspar Cassando. The audience listened intently; many were enchanted by the music. Continuing with endorphin release the School launched straight into a very rousing version of Shine Jesus Shine, accompanied by Mrs Hughes on the piano.
Miss Owen spoke to the children about the launch of a new competition that will be taking place next term. To mark Earth Day, which takes place on Friday 22nd April, pupils are being asked to bring in flowers to contribute to the new biodiversity garden that will be planted near the chicken coops. Mr Vaughan has been hard at work and has crafted four flower beds. Alongside this a competition will run. Children have been asked to design their own biodiverse garden; this can be done using sketches, Lego or a shoebox design. Entries can be presented on video or via labelling.
It was now time for Mrs Phillips to hand out all of this week’s awards. First up she distributed some chess awards from Mr Berry. In Year 5 Barnaby, Max M, Jack M and Max were commended, with Michelle winning the Year 5 trophy. Luca M was the recipient of the Year 4 trophy and Charles N took the honours in Year 3. Well done to all of our chess players from Year 2 to Year 5; Mr Berry has been very impressed with you all.
Year 3 had a brilliant trip to the Malvern Outdoor Centre last week and all of the pupils showed great resilience in their first residential. Mrs Phillips was delighted to award all of Year 3 with their certificates from the trip.
Mrs Phillips has again handed out many HTAs this week and her basket of brilliance will definitely need a major restock over the Easter holidays. Well done to Simi in Year 1, Harry C and Luca M in Year 4, Jack M in Year 5 and the following Year 6 pupils: Bella M, Florence B, Georgia J and James R.
Our final Top House Point Achievers of the week for this term were:
Well done also to Florence B, who has now achieved two stars to add to her collection of Activity Badges! There were also a large number of Junior King’s Hawford Badges to award. Well done to Harriet B, Darcy B, James B, Grace D, Robyn G, Annabel J, George M, Rory S, Henry W and Ava W!
This week our Pre-Prep superstars gathered together in the Tipi for a rather special Praise Assembly. Not only does today mark the end of the Spring Term but it also marks Miss Atwood’s last day with us. All of the children adore Miss Atwood and they all wanted to say goodbye, so the Pre-Prep teachers organised a surprise leaving party for Miss Atwood as part of the assembly. After surprising Miss Atwood, the children enjoyed some party games and party food.
It was wonderful to have the whole of Pre-Prep together for Praise Assembly. In the Summer Term Reception will be included in the awards each week. They were all very shocked to be awarded with ‘Star of the Week’ certificates! A special well done to Alexander and William C who were both awarded Marvellous Manners certificates as well!
The Year 1 and Year 2 teachers decided that all of the children in their classes have had an outstanding term and a unanimous decision was made to award all of the children with ‘Star of the Week’ certificates.
Well done Pre-Prep!
