Chapel buzzing with excitement for Concert
There was a real buzz of excitement in the Chapel on Tuesday afternoon as parents and children gathered for the first Informal Concert of 2023. These concerts are incredibly popular and in total 29 children lined up at the start line for this one: wow! The School Chapel provided an atmospheric backdrop to the concert.
Children from Year 1 to Year 6 entertained us on a variety of instruments, playing pieces they have been working on with their instrumental teachers. We enjoyed classical pieces such as Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King and Saint-Saens Romance alongside traditional favourites (Skye Boat Song and Yankee Doodle), songs from the shows (Naughty and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious) and rock classics (We Will Rock You and Don’t Look Back in Anger). Alice (Y5) also introduced us all to the entertaining and catchy Cha-Cha-Cha-Chihuahua Song, never before performed at King’s St Alban’s and currently a YouTube phenomenon!
It was lovely to welcome two new performers to the Informal Concert stage in the Chapel. Romi (Y3) and Ché-David (Y4) each gave their first ever solo performance, playing beautifully and with great composure. Rory (Y6) has never missed an Informal Concert, but appeared for the first time in this one playing the French Horn rather than the piano. He and his sister, Greta (Y3) also gave us a KSA Informal Concert first by performing together, Rory acting as an able accompanist to Greta.
Audience participation always goes down well, and everyone enjoyed joining in with Tom (Y5) during his super performance of Don’t Look Back in Anger.
Congratulations to everyone who took part. The standard was higher than ever, and it was clear that everyone had worked incredibly hard to prepare their pieces. This was a fantastic event and a lovely way to end the day.
