Chapel fills with music once again

The King’s St Alban’s Chapel was filled with music once again on Tuesday afternoon, as Prep School pupils and their parents gathered for our Prep School Informal Concert. As ever, the standard of performance was incredibly high, and it was clear that everyone had worked hard to prepare their pieces. Tom B (Y5) got us off to a rousing start with his rendition of Summer of ‘69, complete with audience participation. The rest of the concert was a real feast, with a wide variety of instruments from bassoon and ‘cello to violin, voice, trumpet, flute and piano. The variety of styles of music ensured there was something for everyone, as we enjoyed songs from musicals such as Oliver!, West Side Story and Matilda (As long as He Needs Me, I Feel Pretty and Naughty) alongside film music (Raiders’ March), Bruno Mars (Talking to the Moon), ABBA (Super Trouper), and classical pieces such as Chopin’s  beautiful Nocturne in E minor.

It was lovely to be able to welcome Theo S (Y5) to the Informal Concert stage for his debut performance on the piano. Well done, Theo: you played beautifully!

A few of our regulars also took to the platform for their first performance on new instruments. Rosie W (Y3) moved from the piano to violin, George B (Y5), also a ‘frequent flyer’ on the piano, gave his first performance on the trumpet, and Shreya (Y5), who entertains us regularly on the violin, bravely stood up and sang Hushabye Mountain beautifully, having only had two singing lessons so far!!

This was the last opportunity for our leaving Year Six pupils to perform, before they move on to ‘Big King’s’ in September. They have entertained us brilliantly throughout their time at KSA and we will miss them greatly. We wish them well as they move on to the next exciting stage of their musical careers. Thank you to Ace D, Georgina N, Charlie M, Emily H and Rory W; you have hardly missed a concert in all your time at KSA and it has been a real privilege to be part of your musical journey.

Finally, congratulations to everyone who took part in the concert. You all played brilliantly, and this was a lovely way to end the day. We are already excited to see what next year’s concert series will hold!
