Year 6 Discover the Tricks of the Writer’s Trade

Year 6 have had a fantastic start to their English learning as they explored ‘Tricks of the Writer’s Trade’ through an exciting extract from Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer.

After revisiting some of the reading ‘tricks’ they already knew and discovering some new ones, the children put their knowledge to the test with a lively Kahoot quiz. They then delved deeper into the text, developing their skills in vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarisation to uncover meaning and gain a deeper understanding of the story.

We also enjoyed our first visit to the library on Friday, giving the children an opportunity to explore the shelves, discover new books and enjoy some quiet time with their chosen reads.

It has been wonderful to see Year 6 approaching their reading with such enthusiasm and curiosity. We look forward to seeing where their reading adventures take them next!
