Choristers receive white surplices

On Wednesday evening, choristers, Ralphie D and Rory W from Year 4 were admitted as full members of the Worcester Cathedral Choir.  This followed a lengthy spell as probationer choristers, learning on a daily basis from the Director of Music and older members of the cathedral choir.  This is a tremendous achievement for the boys and was marked at a splendid Evensong watched on by families and school staff.  It means the boys are now allowed to wear the choir’s white surplice.  When the King’s School was refounded by King Henry VIII in 1541, provision was made for boy choristers in the school and so Rory and Ralphie are joining a tradition going back nearly five hundred years.
