Class assemblies allow pupils to shine

We were lucky to enjoy not one but two fantastic class assemblies this week. First up, Year 1 delighted their friends and families with their class assembly, in which they retold the story of Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The children explained to the audience that they had read lots of jungle-themed stories as part of their topic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and that this story had been a firm favourite.  With lots of smiles and confidence, the children performed beautifully, describing Baby Monkey’s search for her mum with the help of the other jungle animals along the way.  Some of the children shared the riddles they had written using the story as inspiration and the audience were very keen to get involved and guess the animal they had written about.  The children also displayed some super artwork inspired by the painting Surprised! by Henri Rousseau.  The children sang and danced enthusiastically and, as Baby Monkey was finally reunited with Mummy Monkey in the story, the children made reference to their appreciation of their own grown-ups at home with a lovely song about Mother’s Day.  Well done, Year 1; we are very proud of you!

On Wednesday 4AJ celebrated diversity in the human race by using their pets as examples in their assembly. It was clear they really enjoyed putting together the assembly and were so proud to show off their pets, who they undoubtedly decided were part of their family. There is now much anticipation to find out who is the winner of Guess the Staff’s pet competition.
