Colourful Feelings: Year 1 Combine Art and PSHE
This week, Year 1 enjoyed a wonderful lesson combining art and PSHE through the story Conker the Chameleon by Hannah Peckham. In the story, Conker finds it difficult to change colour to show the other chameleons how he is feeling, and through his journey he learns just how important it is to talk about feelings and share our emotions with others.
The story inspired some thoughtful and meaningful discussions in the classroom, talking about different emotions, how we can recognise how we are feeling and who we can talk to when we need support. It was lovely to hear everyone sharing ideas so confidently and showing great empathy for one another.
Following the story, Year 1 enjoyed designing and creating their own colourful chameleons. They carefully thought about patterns and colour choices to reflect different moods and personalities, producing some bright and imaginative artwork.
Even more impressively, they linked this activity to their English learning by using adjectives to describe their chameleons. They chose descriptive words to match the colours, patterns and feelings they had represented, showing a fantastic understanding of how language can bring their creations to life.
Well done Year 1, for your creativity, thoughtful discussions and brilliant learning this week!
