Creative ConneXions demonstrates art calibre
This year’s Creative ConneXions theme was a powerful one. The show, Our Precious Planet, took place at the end of term and was a fantastic celebration of art, music, dance and poetry. The children were encouraged to work in pairs and groups to choreograph parts of the dance for themselves. Some of the dances were closely linked to the environmental theme, whilst others interpreted it in a more abstract way.
The show opened with a beautiful dance by Dance Club, about the diversity of nature that surrounds us here on planet Earth. Year 3 performed a dazzling dance about the changing seasons. In contrast, the Year 5 dances were all about the effects of climate change, the unpredictability of the weather bringing storms, floods and forest wildfires.
The Year 4 theme looked at the importance of rivers and trees, recreating the journey of the river from the source to the mouth. Dance Club had tremendous fun dancing to Sweet Child of Mine whilst displaying their gymnastic skills! This enjoyable style of dance contrasted sharply with the Year 6 dances, which were all about the effects of war on the environment. Both dances showed how important it is to look after one another and not be afraid to stand up for what you believe. The final song, Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, was sung by the whole school. It summed up this year’s Creative ConneXions beautifully; in the words of the song,” You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone”
The artwork in the gallery was stunning and the poetry which the children had written supported the chosen theme beautifully. It was a wonderful, emotional evening and one that we hope will stay in the hearts of those who took part for a very long time.
