Cricket: Confident teamwork on the field

U11 & U10 Mixed Cricket vs Moor Park School

The sun made a long overdue, but very welcome appearance for the Under 10/11 A Team’s cricket match against Moor Park on Wednesday afternoon. The match took place on the well-prepared cricket pitch at Slingpool Walk playing fields, with the iconic Worcester Cathedral sitting beautifully in the background.

Moor Park won the toss and chose to put the team from St Alban’s in to bat first. The boys all batted well, with Harry S and Freddy scoring a very impressive 31 runs between them. Sam and Jack batted next, scoring 18 runs. Tom and Archie followed, with 13 runs in their partnership. Arlo and Ben scored 14 runs in their pair, before our last batting pair of Louie and Will scored 25 runs between them. Boundaries were scored by Harry, Louie, Jack, Will, Freddy and Sam, with Louie scoring the only Six of the match!

Having posted a strong score of 272 runs for the loss of six wickets, the team from Moor Park knew that they would need to bat well and concede as few wickets as possible if they wanted to win the match. After bowling really well, and managing to take five wickets, it all came down to the very last over! Unfortunately, despite an acrobatic dive to get his gloves to the ball, our wicket keeper wasn’t quite able to hold onto the ball. After capitalising on this by scoring two boundaries of their own, Moor Park ended up winning the match with a final score of 284 runs for five wickets.

This was a fantastic match for spectators to watch, and for the boys to take part in, and there was plenty to celebrate at the end of the match, despite the narrow loss. The whole team batted, bowled and fielded well, with Freddie, Ben, Will and Louie all taking wickets of their own.

Well done to all of the boys who played in this match, and thank you very much to all of the spectators who came to watch such an exciting match: we hope to see as many of you as possible when the children play their friends and club teammates from our local friendly rivals, RGS Worcester, next week.

U11 & U10B Mixed Cricket vs Moor Park School

It was a fantastic afternoon of cricket in the sunshine, playing against Moor Park School. The atmosphere was vibrant as both girls and boys showcased their talents together on the field.

Henry, our captain, lost the toss, and we were put into bat first. Harry and Aaron opened the batting, setting a solid foundation, with Harry hitting two boundaries. Together, they scored 20 runs off their three overs.

Next to bat were Joshua and Helena. Joshua’s exceptional performance earned him the title of Batter of the Day, and the pair added 24 runs to our total. Following them, Lottie and Evie took to the crease, with Lottie delighting the crowd by hitting the first Six of the day.

Ivy and Otto batted fourth, demonstrating great teamwork. The fifth batting pair, Henry and Ruqayyah, added to our impressive tally by scoring four boundaries between them. Finally, Joshua returned for a second innings, this time with Arslan. They proved to be a formidable duo, scoring an impressive 29 runs off their overs. By the end of our innings, we had set a challenging target of 337 runs.

Our bowlers then took the field, delivering an exceptional performance and giving away very few extras. Henry and Joshua each claimed a wicket, Ruqayyah took two, and Otto, who was voted Bowler of the Day, took three wickets. Our fielding was equally impressive, contributing to a tight defence.

Moor Park managed to score 268 runs, falling a good way short of our total. It was an excellent win for King’s St Alban’s, marked by a convincing performance from all players.

U11/U10 C Cricket vs Moor Park

The children had a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday  playing cricket in the warm weather against Moor Park. We lost the toss and the visitors elected to bat first, so we were put in to field. Bowling was mainly accurate, with a few wides. Crispin had a storming over: he took three consecutive wickets, two being bowled and one a run-out. Luca (two) and Charlotte (one) also took wickets and we managed to keep the visitors to 273. After a quick team talk, we headed out to bat. Uriah and Zara were in first and managed to run some excellent singles, and Uriah scored three Fours in his first over. We carried on in that vein, and Crispin went in to score two Sixes. The calling after every ball was very impressive and all were good runs to bring us to the final score of 292. Well done to Brody, who was named Opposition Bower of the Match, and to Luca who was our Bowler of the Match.

U9A Girls Cricket vs Malvern St James

We were delighted with the performance of the Year Four girls on Tuesday at Malvern St James’s. The match started on a high note, as Romi opened the bowling with a fantastic maiden over, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Our team bowled consistently, giving very few extras away and maintaining pressure on the opposing team throughout their innings.

Special congratulations go to Millie, Hannah, and Martha, who each took crucial wickets, further bolstering our team’s strong position. Their exceptional bowling efforts ensured that the opposition struggled to build momentum.

Our batting performance was equally impressive. The girls displayed remarkable confidence and aggression, going for every ball and scoring a total of 10 boundaries in just eight overs. This aggressive approach paid off, as the team amassed a competitive total. Every player contributed significantly to the match, but special recognition goes to Nell, who was awarded Batter of the Match for her outstanding performance at the crease, and Edith, who was named Bowler of the Match for her exceptional bowling.

Well done to all the girls on a convincing and well-deserved win. Their teamwork, determination, and skill were evident throughout the match, making it a memorable victory for the team.

U9/8 B Cricket v Malvern St James

The girls had a great afternoon over at Malvern St James. We won the toss and elected to field first. Our bowling was accurate, with only a few wides being given, and we managed to keep MSJ to 232: Savannah and Kasvika both took wickets. After a quick team talk, we were put in to bat. We made some excellent singles, although we did get run out on one of them, and Savannah hit a Four. We managed to top their score and got 232. Well done to Savannah, who was awarded Opposition Batter of the Match, and Amber, for her award of Bowler of the Match.
