King's St Alban's

Developing an ‘upstander community’

Nipping across the road, pupils from King’s Senior School were welcomed to King’s St Alban’s as part of our hugely varied assembly calendar this term.

Members of the King’s Senior School Council delivered an informative and inspiring assembly on “How to Create an Upstander Community.” Pupils came together in the King’s St Alban’s Chapel and listened intently throughout the session. They learnt about the King’s School Council’s chosen project for the current academic year, what is meant by being an upstander, and ways in which we can all “upstand”.

Following on from the assembly, children in Year Five made the reverse journey to visit King’s Senior School and were warmly welcomed by members of the King’s Senior Council. They took part in an interactive workshop aimed at identifying ways in which the pupils themselves could be upstanding in school. After much discussion, the pupils were able to put their creative skills to the test and create posters to help spread the important message far and wide throughout the King’s community.

Commenting on the workshop, a Year Five pupil enthused, “The workshop inspired me to think about how I could be an upstanding member of the community. I am excited put some ideas into action once we return to school. It was also great fun to get to know some of the ‘Big King’s’ pupils.”

We extend a huge thank you to the King’s Senior School Council and Miss Dyke, Deputy Head Pastoral, who spent much thought and time delivering not only an informative assembly but also such an inspiring workshop.
