Developing Place Value Skills: Dividing by 10 in Year 4

Year 4 have been working hard in their maths lessons this week, with a focus on dividing numbers by 10. Pupils began by revisiting place value and exploring how dividing by 10 affects digits, helping them to understand how numbers become ten times smaller.

Through practical activities and visual representations, pupils investigated how digits move one place to the right when dividing by 10. They used place value charts, counters and written methods to support their understanding and to explain their thinking clearly. The lessons included a range of problem-solving and reasoning activities, encouraging pupils to apply their knowledge in different contexts. Pupils showed great confidence when explaining their strategies and demonstrated a secure understanding of how dividing by 10 links to multiplication and place value.

It has been great to see such focus and enthusiasm throughout the lessons. Well done Year 4, for your hard work and positive attitude to learning in maths.
