King's Hawford

DRUM ROLL PLEASE…the results of the Tenner Challenge are in!

A great King’s Hawford tradition, this year the Tenner Challenge saw bumper numbers of Year Five and Year Six pupils take part: a total of 56 pupils divided across 20 teams. Starting with £10, each team had five weeks and eight sales sessions during the course of the Lent Term to make as much money as possible for our school charities.

As ever, sales days created an awesome buzz in the playground at break times, with buyers and sellers enjoying the hustle and bustle of the marketplace. With a vast array of products on sale, from jewellery to plants, clay figures to various squashies and fidget toys, there was something for everyone.

A sweet and savoury smorgasbord of food tempted pupils and staff, from sweets in Week One to cakes, popcorn, sausage rolls (which were particularly delicious by all accounts!) and milkshakes. And if that didn’t appeal, there were a number of challenges including golf, football, shooting, lucky-dip, raffles and guess the number of a variety of objects in the jar!

Presenting a number of awards in Celebration Assembly, Mr Stigant was delighted to share the news of who had been successful in receiving an award.

The first award, for “Best Ethos”, was made to a team which went about selling their products in a thoughtful manner, and offered a product with a positive message. For the way in which they approached selling their beautiful kindness bracelets, the award went to Jess and Elizabeth.

Next up was the award for “Best Presentation” of a product or service and, whilst Mr Stigant commended them on their classy food-based product range, he knew immediately that Leighton, Palmer and Oscar were the winners as soon as they broke out the Friesian cowboy hats!

The award for “Best Product” has for the first time gone, in 2024, to a food business. Mr Stigant personally devoured at least a dozen of their scrumptious delights! The award was clinched by Annabel and Darcy, whose cake lollies were simply irresistible.

With an extremely strong field, the “Runners Up” Award is most certainly a big deal, and the team who won this accolade did a great job selling a range of different products, creating special offers and, in the case of one of them in particular, definitely using the gift of the gab. Congratulations go to Iza and Sophie for raising well over £200 and being crowned Runners Up.

The penultimate award for “Best Brand” went to a team who stood out on numerous occasions with their weekly adverts, catchy name, and well-being message, alongside appealing products which captured the imagination of the King’s Hawford community. Congratulations go to Teddy and George, otherwise known as Bounce.co.uk!

Last year’s winners, Teddy and George have obviously used their experience to come back even stronger this year with great advertising, a well-chosen product range and a strong work ethic. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Teddy and George have been crowned “Winners of the Tenner Challenge 2024”. Making over £400 last year, the dynamic duo have topped all expectations this year and raised an incredible £563.

In 2023, Mr Stigant, together with the whole King’s Hawford community, was delighted to raise a staggering £1,704 during the Tenner Challenge, and nobody really thought that would be beaten; however, we were wrong. The total amount which will be distributed to our school charities this year is £2,281, an amazing £500 plus more than 2023.

A massive thank you to the whole King’s Hawford community, from pupils to parents, teachers and friends, who have made this incredible achievement possible.
