King's St Alban's
20 January
Enthusiasm and determination on display
Pupils were full of enthusiasm and determination as they took on their first competitive matches of the Spring Term.
U8 & U9 Netball v Abberley
All our U8 and U9 girls were excited and nervous on Tuesday as they faced their first netball match of the term. As Abberley arrived, the girls all sat down together and went through some rules and how the games would be played; their enthusiasm to get on court was obvious.
The new Bee Netball really is fantastic, as all the girls are fully involved in the game, and it still covers all the basic skills for them to develop into confident team players.
We were very impressed with the performance of all of our six teams and the results were promising. They displayed some excellent determination to do their best and worked well with their team.
Well done to all Year 3 and 4 girls!
U10 Netball v Bromsgrove
The girls had a wonderful afternoon up at Bromsgrove School in their first netball match of the season. It was lovely that all the Year 5 girls were involved in the fixture. We rotated four different teams and used the Bee Netball rotation sheets to swap positions at every quarter. Consequently, every girl played every position, which was excellent! There were some wins and some losses throughout the afternoon, but it was great seeing all the girls really enjoying their netball. They made lots of improvement throughout the afternoon and rounded things off with a warming match tea. Well done girls!
U10/11 Football Tournament at Winterfold
What a fantastic start to the football season, with the very much enjoyed Matty Thacker Football tournament at Winterfold, in which the U10/11 boys just lost out in the Plate Final in extra time. The tournament is named after Matty, a Year 6 Winterfold pupil who tragically lost his life in 2007. King’s St Alban’s were placed in a very strong group including Hereford Cathedral School, The Blue Coat School, West House and Wolverhampton Grammar School. The boys improved as the tournament went on and displayed excellent teamwork and resilience on a very cold afternoon.
Jack grew in confidence between the posts, making a number of fingertip saves and distributing the ball well. Harry, Sam and Will D commanded the back line of defence, making decisive tackles. Peter, the playmaker in the middle of the park, spread the ball well and worked hard to get forwards. Monty and Will R played well on the wings, supplying Rook and Joshua, who played up front. This was a great start to the season: well done boys!
