Final matches mark close of cricket season
Over the past week our pupils have taken part in their last fixtures of the cricket season with matches against RGS The Grange.
Cricket Fixtures v RGS The Grange
We have thoroughly enjoyed our block fixtures against RGS The Grange this week, finishing what has been a very busy cricket term. Every pupil in the Prep School was involved in these fixtures and in all the matches the staff from both schools tried hard to make sure that the pupils really enjoyed the experience.
We often comment at this point in the term upon how it is a shame that we have to move onto a next sport when we return from our break. We watch the children through the term make so much progress and feel all their hard work is coming to fruition. This has been particularly prevalent this term: the performances over the last week have been outstanding and we must particularly congratulate our U11 girls and boys for their success on Wednesday.
U11 Girls’ Cricket v RGS The Grange
The umpire for the U11 girls’ cricket team’s final match commented that their task was an absolute joy! They hadn’t seen them play a match since Year Five and they were completely bowled over by the team’s cricket skills and maturity.
King’s St Alban’s batted first and each pair faced three overs. The opening pair, Emily H and Sienna D, scored a solid 19 runs. Georgia P and Lucy D continued the momentum, adding 20 runs, including an impressive boundary. Ace D and Ella G accumulated 33 runs, including another brilliant boundary for four. The final pair, Erin B and Eshal R ran well between the wickets, scoring 27 runs and bringing the team’s total to an impressive 99 runs off 12 overs.
KSA’s bowling and fielding was equally formidable. Erin B opened the bowling and displayed excellent accuracy and pace. As captain, she skilfully adjusted the fielding positions, creating a lively atmosphere in the field. Ella G set the tone by claiming an early wicket with a brilliant run-out. Lucy D also deservedly claimed a wicket with an excellent ball. Eshal R worked hard at mid-wicket and took two outstanding catches, both from balls bowled by Georgia P. In the penultimate over, KSA struck again with a run-out, showcasing their sharp fielding skills. Following the deductions (-5) for each wicket, RGS the Grange had a final score of 51 runs off 12 overs.
The KSA cricketers fully deserved their superb win and it was a fitting end to their successful cricket season and their time at King’s St Alban’s.
