Finishing half term on a sporting high.
U9 A and B Stingers Netball v RGS Springfield
The girls had a lovely afternoon in the sunshine playing their Stingers 5-a-side netball game. The A and B teams have come on well since the start of term, both in terms of their passing and their footwork. We didn’t keep score and rotated the positions as per the Bee Netball rotation sheet, and all girls really enjoyed playing netball in a match against another school. Both schools were fairly well matched, so it was lovely to see both sides enjoying their games. Well done to Opposition Players of the Match, Charlotte and Tilly.
U10A Netball v Winterfold House School
The U10A team played Winterfold on Wednesday afternoon; they had a very slow start and allowed Winterfold to go six-up in the first quarter. They came back stronger in the second quarter and worked defensively hard, allowing only one goal in. There was some lovely movement from Karla, and some wonderful interceptions from Millie. Although they lost the game 12-2, the improvement throughout the quarters was very noticeable; this was proven by the girls only allowing Winterfold to score two goals in the final quarter
U10B Netball v Winterfold House School
The U10B team started off much stronger, taking the lead 1-0 in the first quarter. Phoebe’s determination as well as Grace and Lilly’s movement off the ball allowed the ball to be passed fluently down the court. Sienna scored two outstanding goals, with Shreya closely behind, scoring one. Special shootouts go to Phoebe and Lottie for being awarded Players of the Match.
U11 A Netball v RGS Springfield
Well done the U11A netball team, who won their first proper five-a-side match quite convincingly. It all came together and parents on the side-lines remarked on how much they had improved in the last month or so. There was excellent movement up the court, with Erin and Sienna taking the lead there; Ella and Eshal were on point with their interceptions down the defensive end and Emily and Lucy were accurate with their shooting. All girls rotated positions and it was clear that they had improved in every one. We won quite convincingly 9-0 but it was lovely to see how much this team have gelled together and their hard work has finally paid off with a win. They will continue to practise all positions and add in the WA and WD to create a seven-a-side team in the remainder of their matches. Well done to Eshal, who was Opposition Player of the Match.
U11 B Netball v RGS Springfield
The U11 B team demonstrated perseverance and superb teamwork against RGS Springfield. Evie and Mila impressed with their dodging and Iman demonstrated some excellent passing. After each quarter, KSA rotated positions, so they all had a chance to shoot. Penny B and Sienna C used their height advantage in the circle to make some excellent interceptions and rebounds while Ace worked tirelessly, moving the ball down the court. At half time the score was 2-0 to KSA. As the match progressed, the girls grew in confidence and their passing became more accurate. In the second half, KSA managed to score two more goals and defended well. The girls were delighted to win 4-0. Well done to Sienna Clarke who was OPOM.
Y3&4 Sports Hall Netball v Springfield
The Y3&4 girls played netball against Springfield on Tuesday. It was a delightful afternoon, where our girls demonstrated some very good footwork skills; their movement for the ball has also improved. During the afternoon we mixed the teams, so our girls played alongside Springfield and it was lovely to see how they all chatted and enjoyed interacting with the other girls.
U9/8 Football
On Tuesday this week we had another glorious afternoon for our trip to Winterfold. We played matches against both the hosts and King’s Hawford. Real improvement was seen across the afternoon in two competitive matches. We started to think our way up the pitch, and Louie linked well with Mark and Harry on the left. In a similar vein, Ben and Will worked well together on the right. Luca showed some good strength up front, and the team created some good chances. Mr Hooman’s tips about ‘jockeying’ in defence also helped sure up at the back. We look forward to more chances to improve after half term.
U9/8 Football
The U8/9 team travelled to Winterfold this week for their fixture and continued to develop their skills and understanding of the game in fine spirit. Brody had another great game in goal and almost scored with five minutes to go when he came out. After a fine sprint down the pitch, Brody’s shot was blocked and then put in the back of the net by Archie, who was there to follow up. Ben D had a fantastic game at the back and is starting to take charge of defence, displaying excellent movement and tackling skills. Archie, who took on a more attacking role this week, worked very hard in midfield and tried to break forward with the ball when he had the opportunity. Alban and Albert worked hard in midfield, covering lots of ground, and got back to defend when the opposition had the ball. Harry B did a great job up front in attack and showed great determination to win the ball and help his teammates. Well done boys!
U9/8 Football
The U9/U8s played an exciting game against Winterfold on Tuesday. Zach L started in goal, and made some fantastic saves. The boys started on the up-hill, making exiting our own half tricky. Even so, George C was a rock at the back and made crucial tackles and brilliant clearances. George was joined at the back by Crispin N. Crispin rarely let an attacker past him, timing his tackles well. As a team, their structure was their weakest point. After some feedback, however, the boys held their structure better, showing good listening. Ché-David R and Henry I were constant in their press, and their passing improved as the game went on. Jasper M-H was outstanding up front, making runs and putting the pressure on the opposition. It was a tough match, but the boys made a very impressive effort.
U11/10 Football
We welcomed Winterfold House School over to Slingpool Walk on Wednesday afternoon. The boys started brilliantly, keeping possession of the ball well and staying in shape, two things that we have worked hard on in games and club. Sam T and Peter U started in defence and they each had a fantastic afternoon. Sam T didn’t let anyone go past him and in a discussion with the team after the final whistle, every single boy agreed that Sam was the Man of the Match. Harry B, Rook T, Joshua R and Monty E played in midfield and controlled the game. They all travelled with the ball excellently and found the right moment to play it to a teammate. Ralphie used his pace and skill up front for the KSA team, where he created a number of good chances. There was a splendid piece of play that led to the King’s third goal, five quick one touch passes through the opponents’ midfield and defence, which eventually found Ralphie, who composed himself and slotted home. Theo didn’t have much to do in goal; however, when he was called upon he made important saves and distributed the ball well from both out of his hands and off the ground. This was the most complete performance of the term and all aspects of their game were impressive. Well done, boys.
U11/10 Football
Our U11/U10s had a brilliant fixture against Winterfold on Wednesday afternoon. Jack B started in goal and stayed there throughout, making some wonderful saves and distributing the ball efficiently. The Winterfold attack was well structured, but Will D and Jack P made some fantastic tackles, repelling the opposition. Francis C was everywhere; his outstanding work-rate had him covering the entire pitch. Equally impressive was our strike force: Will R, Reuben A and Otto E all showcased accurate passing and effective dribbling. A special mention goes to our Man of the Match, Aaron M. His darting runs down the wing led to him scoring one of our goals from the edge of the box. The boys should be proud of their efforts on the pitch, having displayed great sportsmanship and skill.
U11/10 Football
The U11/10 boys team hosted Winterfold this week for their fixture and it was a fine afternoon of football. With Winterfold short of a couple of players, Tom, Joel and Mortimer kindly played some game time for the visiting school to even out the teams. With the boys going down 0-2 at half time, they put in a fine second half display to score four well worked goals. Charlie had a brilliant game as striker and scored a fantastic hat trick. Arslan played in goals and is showing his consistency as a really good goalkeeper. Wilf worked hard at the back, tackling well, and Ivan, who started in defence, had a great game in midfield alongside Eddie. Leo played out on the wing for this game and was a big threat when the team attacked. Well done boys!
