First Aid Training for Year 5

On Wednesday, the children in Year 5 enjoyed taking part in an afternoon of First Aid training. The children learnt how to make an emergency call, how to do a primary survey on a casualty, how to put an unconscious breathing casualty into the recovery position and how to do CPR on a casualty who is not breathing. The training materials used were COVID-safe and it was stressed that the children had to look after their own safety before helping someone else.

The children enjoyed watching videos on the topic and completed quizzes and worksheets to consolidate their learning.  More importantly, they practised their newfound skills on each other by taking part in First Aid role plays. Having completed this practical course the children felt that they would now be able to help someone who needed basic First Aid assistance.
