Game Designers in Action: Year 6 Create Times Tables Games
This week, Year 6 have become budding game designers as they began creating their very own projects using Scratch as part of their computing curriculum. With a real audience in mind, pupils are designing fun and interactive Times Tables Games for our Year 2 pupils to enjoy once the projects are complete.
The aim of the game is both exciting and educational. Players will click on floating numbers from the 2× table, racing against the clock to complete each level before progressing to the next challenge. Year 6 have carefully thought about how to make their games engaging, clear and motivating for younger players, combining creativity with purposeful learning.
Throughout the project, pupils are developing a wide range of important programming skills. They are learning how to create and use variables, apply conditional selection and control how their game responds to the player’s actions. Alongside this, they are testing, debugging and refining their designs to make sure everything works smoothly.
It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, teamwork and problem-solving on display as pupils bring their ideas to life. We are very much looking forward to seeing the finished games and sharing them with our Year 2 pupils in the coming weeks, a brilliant example of learning, creativity and collaboration across the school!
