Grammar in the Great Outdoors
This week, Year 5 took their learning beyond the classroom and out into the spring sunshine for an engaging and active English lesson. Making the most of the fresh air, pupils worked collaboratively to sort a range of words into different grammatical categories using hoops set out across the playground.
The activity focused on identifying and understanding key parts of speech, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions and pronouns. Pupils discussed their ideas in groups, carefully considering the role each word plays within a sentence before placing it in the correct hoop. This hands-on approach encouraged thoughtful discussion, teamwork and deeper understanding of grammar concepts.
Learning outdoors not only brought energy and enthusiasm to the lesson, but also helped pupils to apply their knowledge in a practical and memorable way. It was wonderful to see such high levels of engagement, with pupils confidently explaining their choices and supporting one another’s learning.
A brilliant effort from Year 5, embracing their learning with enthusiasm while making the most of the spring sunshine.
