Grandparents’ Day Shines
Grandparents’ Day is a cherished event in our school community, and this year was no exception. As a key part of our Arts Week Programme, it was held on a beautiful, sunny day. Pupils eagerly gathered on the top fields, greeted by a sea of smiling grandparents. One by one, the pupils reunited with their grandparents and quickly dispersed to give them a tour of the School.
It was heart-warming to see the pupils proudly showing their grandparents their classrooms and favourite spots. Grandparents took great delight in looking through school books and admiring the many colourful displays of work.
Following the tours, pupils participated in a fantastic concert held in the marquee. Grandparents and loved ones were treated to a variety of wonderful performances. The orchestra opened with an enthusiastic rendition of Torrador from Carmen by Georges Bizet. This was followed by the Dance Mix group’s high-energy performance to Despacito by Luis Fonsi. The kindergarten class then charmed the audience with Five Little Firemen.
Year One sang Mexican Wave with accompanying actions, followed by the String Group’s performance of We Are the Champions by K & D Blackwell. A saxophone duet then played America from West Side Story. Year Two sang Crackers Maracas, and Year Three performed La Cucaracha. A serene flute solo of TipToe and Tango set the stage for the Year Four Dance group’s impressive routine to Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega. The Brass group brought the house down with Tango Takeaway, and the Hawford Harps played Lift Me Up by Rihanna.
Year Five amazed the audience with their exceptional rendition of Peanut Vendor, and Year Six concluded with a stellar performance of Cantar by Jay Althouse. The concert ended with all our Prep pupils joining together on stage for a rousing rendition of La Bamba.
After the concert, guests joined pupils for refreshments on the top field. With the sun shining, pupils enjoyed delicious cakes with their loved ones, and the ice-cream van was very popular in the glorious weather.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the grandparents who joined us for this wonderful occasion.
