Hawford Harps debut at Informal Concert

On Thursday evening there was an air of excitement in The Barn as our musicians prepared for the final Informal Concert of the half term. Mrs Hughes and members of the peripatetic music team worked quickly to set up the concert’s first performers, carefully ensuring all instruments were tuned and ready to go. With parents starting to queue outside, the String Group had a final run through of their piece, Winter Chills (S. Hughes). It is safe to say that this ‘practice’ set the tone for the concert.

Once the audience was seated, Mr Butt gave a warm welcome before handing over to Mrs Hughes. String Group gave a faultless performance and received their second round of applause of the evening. Next up, the Hawford Harps were making their debut. This was a historic moment, as Hawford Harps only launched at the beginning of this half of term. Made up of Michelle Z, Edith D, Max D, Pippa P, Izadora M-P and Ariana P, the group, led by Ms Erica Sinclair, mesmerised the audience with their performance of Frere Jacques.

During the concert the audience were treated to a range of music on different instruments. Georgia P, Michelle Z, Amelie B, Fearne B, Olivia G and Charlotte F each played the violin. Concerts like this provide a brilliant opportunity for our pupils of all ages to take to the stage in front of an audience. It is extremely beneficial for our younger pupils to watch our older ones perform, as it gives them something to which to aspire!

Eleanor N, Elise M, William C, Emily G, Harry J and Elizabeth N all performed on confidently on the piano. Mixing things up slightly, we also had Thea on the trombone, Robyn C on the electric guitar and Darcy B on the clarinet. It was a delight to have some many vocalists on the bill for the concert too, as Harper P, Ava H, Ariana P, Amelia B, Rosie H, Arya P and Edith D all impressed with their strong vocal performances.

Well done to all the performers! Thank you to Mrs Hughes and our wonderful peripatetic music teachers: Mrs Allen-Griffiths, Mrs Allsop, Mr Bates, Mr Bridgwater, Ms Sinclair, Ms Allard, Mrs Troughton, Ms Chaddock and Mr Adams.
