Hawford pupils in action on the sports fields

U8 Boys’ Rugby

On Tuesday afternoon, the U8 boys competed in their final tag-rugby festival of the term. The boys wrapped up the term by playing some excellent rugby, with more consistent tackling and defensive organisation on show. They continued to demonstrate a real threat with ball in hand, showing athletic running and enhanced passing and movement skills. They performed brilliantly in their matches against Winterfold, Hereford and RGS The Grange.

U10 Boys’ Rugby

On Wednesday afternoon, the U10 boys travelled to Warwick Prep School for a super afternoon of rugby. They played in near-freezing conditions, and showed great levels of character and resilience to put in impressive performances. Mr Hodgkins’s team worked hard in matches against Warwick, Bromsgrove and The Croft and the highlights of the day included superb tries from Noah L, Barnaby J, George C and Nayel MS, as well as an outstanding performance all afternoon from Player of the Day, Freddie B.

U10 & U11 Hockey v Winterfold

On Wednesday, the U10 and U11 girls travelled to Winterfold on a very cold afternoon, and all three teams played incredibly well in very cold conditions and very competitive and well-matched games.

On Pitch One, the girls showcased incredibly hard work and determination, exhibiting exceptional teamwork, and supporting each other seamlessly on the field. The synergy was evident through their precise and strong passing, linking up effectively to create numerous scoring opportunities.

Defensively, both teams demonstrated real resilience, with solid tackles and impeccable clearances, particularly from Chloe S, Chloe P, Annabel J and Robyn G at the back. The girls’ commitment and hard work was palpable throughout the games, making it a remarkable display of skill, collaboration, and unwavering effort. The midfield combination of Ava I, Ava H and Sofia E in one team and Darcy B, Iza MP and Olivia G in the other were hard to beat, and caused Winterfold some difficulty, thwarting any attack they made. Sienna G and Bella W had several opportunities up front and made some great runs for their teams. A special mention must go to our Goalkeepers, Ava W and Chloe T, who were exceptional in goal, making their presence known with several crucial saves. The girls took this match as an opportunity to put everything they have learnt this season into practice on the pitch, showing how much progress they have made and, most importantly, how much they have enjoyed their hockey this term. Player of the Match from Team One, with exceptional commitment and hard work, was Darcy B, chosen by the opposition.

Also chosen by the opposition, Player of the Match from Team Two, with consistently good tackles and clearances in defence, was Chloe P.

Over on the second pitch, the U10 girls gelled as a team from the first whistle and used the width of the pitch as Sophie confidently dribbled the ball down the wings and sent the ball with great accuracy to our attacking midfielders and forwards in the D. As an outfield player (normally the U10 goalkeeper), Mary showed her developing skill, passing the ball accurately to Thea, who scored three goals. Mary also secured a goal herself from a brilliant free hit, and Chloe T showed promise as a goalkeeper during our warm-up; thankfully she did not need to showcase her skills as our midfield and defending players (Elizabeth, Jess, Sophie, Olivia W and Thea) worked brilliantly, which meant that the ball never entered our D. Winterfold chose Thea as their Player of the Match, and Miss Lake nominates all players for their excellent enthusiasm during the match on what was their final hockey fixture of the season.
