King's St Alban's

IAPS Swimming 2018

An early start on Saturday morning saw a majority of the boy's swimming team make the journey to London on the Friday evening with their parents. All stayed in the Premier Inn which overlooked the impressive London Aquatic Centre. Arriving early also had the added benefit that Mr Essenhigh and Mr Gooch managed a thorough recce of the venue on the Friday night having somehow being allowed in by the staff.

On Saturday morning Mrs Woodger and Mrs Clarke had a very early start, managing to arrive in London by 7am. The boys were all in good spirits after their full English breakfasts (Seth missing out on a sausage!) and the excitement and nerves were all under control. The warm up went well and they didn't have long to wait for their race as the medley relay was second in the programme. They qualified in 16th place for the finals and did an impressive swim on the day to come 12th overall, improving their time from the heats by 6 seconds.

The girls team were able to travel down on the day as their warm up did not start until 2pm. The venue was extremely busy by the time they arrived with schools from all over the country congregating outside the venue in the sunshine. We had the added entertainment of seeing the 'fly by' for the Queen's birthday.

The girls were quickly in action with their relay second on the girls programme.  They qualified from the heats in 12th place and did extremely well to improve their time by 6 seconds and get placed 11th overall.

This is the first time St Alban's have qualified for this event and it was an incredible experience for both the children and staff. We were competing with the top schools in the country and our children were a credit to the school on the day.
