King’s Hawford Weekly Sports Round up

It has been another busy week here at King’s Hawford, here is our weekly sports round up.

Netball Weekly Sport’s Round up

U8 vs. RGS The Grange

The U8s played their final match of the season against RGS The Grange. Split into two teams, they played five lots of six minute matches. Both teams put on a determined performance.

On Miss Lake’s court, the girls faced much taller opposition, however the girls adapted well, using their spatial awareness to work around the challenge of overhead passes. Bonnie and Tanith formed a fantastic attacking partnership, creating multiple scoring opportunities, ably supported by centre, Bella. Bonita-May showed excellent composure when taking her time on goal, demonstrating accuracy in her shooting. In defence, Alice and Bella were outstanding, with Alice making crucial interceptions to keep the opposition at bay. It was a well-fought game, with The Grange creeping back into contention within the final six minutes. The team displayed great teamwork and resilience throughout. A special mention to Tanith, who was named Player of the Match by the opposition for her outstanding contributions.

Miss Holtham’s Team

On Miss Holtham’s court, the girls put in a fantastic effort, working hard to remember their positions and who they should be marking. They worked well as a team  and it was an exciting end-to-end match, with both sides displaying great skill and determination. All the players gave their best, and most importantly, they had lots of fun. Indie was Miss Holtham’s player of the match, she took on her role as captain brilliantly. Miss Odam commented how much Indie’s confidence has grown each match and how it was great to hear her shouting for the ball in space. Lily was also a stand out player, she was moving into space and was catching the ball well lining herself up for some shots on target.

U9 Netball vs RGS The Grange

Mrs Butt’s team demonstrated some fantastic attacking and flowing Netball vs RGS The Grange on Tuesday led by joint captains Eleanor and Tilly. Both teachers commented on the girls exceptionally tight marking and quick attacks which kept the score fairly even in the first four rotations but Aurelia and Amelie were able to just tip the balance with their accurate shooting in the latter stage of the game. Elise and Eleanor worked hard to intercept the ball at every opportunity to initiate some great centre court play by Tilly and Persie using every inch of space on the court.

Eleanor was named as player of the match by the opposition, a well-deserved nomination for her excellent play in every area of the court.

The girls have shown huge progress throughout the Netball season and it was a pleasure to see them playing such high-quality Netball in the final game of the season against competitive opposition.

U8 Girls Netball KH

Mrs. Beech’s Team

In their final game of the season, the U9s showcased the incredible progress each and everyone has made throughout the term. The team demonstrated their developing netball skills with confidence and enthusiasm, putting into practice everything they’ve learned.

A special mention goes to Sophia for her outstanding commitment to the game of netball where she has listened on how to demonstrate effectively skills learnt in lessons. Connie for her perseverance in defence, and Ffion and Alanna for their excellent movement into space using the width of the court. Fearne displayed great timing and effort, intercepting several plays from RGS, while Evelyn showed great resilience on the court.

Well done to the whole team for their hard work and determination this season! Mrs Beech is extremely pleased with the progress each and everyone has shown this term.

Player of the match was awarded to Fearne and Ffion.

Football Weekly Sports Round Up

U8 & U9 Boys Football at RGS The Grange

The Year 3 and 4 boys completed their term’s football fixtures with a mini festival alongside teams from RGS The Grange, King’s St Alban’s and Winterfold. It was a super afternoon in which all of the boys demonstrated the high levels of progress that they have made across the football term. Mr Hodgkins’s team enjoyed three evenly matched games that were played in super spirit and could have easily gone either way. The Hawford boys worked tirelessly out of possession to regain the ball and were particularly well organised in defence. Whilst on the ball, they demonstrated improved decision making and use of space to create several goal scoring opportunities.

U11 Boys King’s Hawford Football Tournament At KSW Football Pitch’s.
Wednesday afternoon marked the annual King’s Hawford under 11 Football Tournament. Ten teams battled it out on the King’s Worcester sports pitches for the potential to win the Trophy, Shield and Plate competitions. The Hawford team were drawn in a group with their peers from The Elms, Wolverhampton Grammar, Monmouth Prep and RGS The Grange in what was a highly competitive league stage. The highlights of the group games included a dominant performance against The Elms, in which the Hawford boys hit the woodwork on several occasions and were thwarted by a strong performance from the opposing goalkeeper, and a superb finish from Jude R following a neat pass from Henry K that secured an important 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Grammar School. This secured third place and resulted in the Hawford boys being drawn against Winterfold in the semi-final of the shield competition. Following a fantastic defensive display from Nayal MS and Oliver G and another well-taken goal from Jude R, the boys progressed into the final with a 1-0 win.

In the final, the boys faced Hereford Cathedral School for the fourth time this season having already played them in the final of the Matty Thacker tournament, the group stages of the ISFA competition as well as our usual home fixture. All match ups had been close and this was no exception. Thomas C had an impressive game in goal, making a string of saves, and was ably supported by the hard work and positive play of this teammates. Despite this, nothing could separate the two teams at the final whistle and so the match went to penalties. Coincidentally, this was a repeat of the first fixture of the term in which Hawford once again faced off in a penalty shootout with Hereford in the Matty Thacker shield final. Thanks to two well taken penalties from Arthur A and Jude R, as well as more penalty heroics from Thomas C in goal, history repeated itself and we were once again crowned as the winners of the shield competition. The boys demonstrated superb sportsmanship and humility in victory and it was a wonderful way to cap off what has been a very enjoyable final football term for the Year 6 boys.
