KSA Sports Spotlight– A Week of Thrilling Netball, Football, and Swimming Action
It’s been another thrilling week of sporting action at KSA, with our students taking part in a variety of exciting matches and events. From netball tournaments to football fixtures and a memorable swimming gala, our pupils have certainly shown great enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Here’s a roundup of all the action.
Tuesday 28th January – Year 3 & 4 Netball Event with Hawford
On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 3 and 4 girls joined forces with twelve girls from Hawford for a fantastic afternoon of netball. The event was designed to foster teamwork and build new friendships, as players from both schools were mixed into six teams. The girls played Bee Netball, ensuring everyone remained actively involved throughout the afternoon. As the games progressed, we saw noticeable improvements in their skills—catching, passing, and movement into space—all becoming sharper. Their shooting abilities were particularly impressive. Beyond the action on the court, the afternoon provided a wonderful opportunity for the girls to socialise, build confidence, and enjoy the sport together. We were incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Wednesday 29th January – Year 6 Netball Court A at Hawford
On Wednesday, the U11 A girls participated in a mixed foundation netball tournament at King’s Hawford. The teams were made up of girls from both schools, playing in a round-robin format. With each team playing two matches, the competition was fierce and closely contested. The green team emerged as the winners on Court A, and it was fantastic to see the girls’ hard work paying off, particularly with their passing, movement, and communication. Goals were scored in abundance, with a few notable results: 9-3, 7-3, and 7-3. The defenders, too, were impressive, making key interceptions to prevent any opposition scoring. Every girl had the opportunity to play four different positions, offering them a valuable insight into what the sport might look like at senior school. Special congratulations to Madie, Georgia, and Yifei, who were awarded Player of the Match twice. A super afternoon indeed!
Wednesday 29th January – Year 5 & 6 Netball at Hawford in ‘The Barn’
On the same afternoon, our Year 5 & 6 girls took part in a round-robin netball tournament at Hawford. The teams were made up of a mix of KSA and Hawford players, and the competition was fierce, with the girls showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination. Some standout performances came from Phoebe, Emilia, and Rosie, whose shooting accuracy and composure were second to none. Throughout the event, the girls demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, always encouraging and supporting one another. Well done to our ‘Players of the Match’—Phoebe, Rosie, Hannah, and Emily D.—for their excellent contributions. We’re looking forward to more opportunities for our girls to develop their skills and enjoy netball together in the future!
Wednesday 29th January – U11 Football v King’s Hawford and Winterfold (Mr Hooman)
Wednesday afternoon saw the U11 boys take on teams from King’s Hawford and Winterfold in a triangular football fixture. The match against King’s Hawford saw a strong start from KSA, with an early goal from Archie and Will setting the tone. However, as the match progressed, maintaining possession proved difficult. The boys struggled to clear the ball from their half, and the key takeaway from the match was the importance of movement off the ball to create space. Against Winterfold, the boys were resilient, holding their own to go into half-time at 0-0. Unfortunately, a deflected shot in the second half led to a 1-0 loss, but Ben J’s solid defence and Arlo’s communication were standouts. Despite the challenges, the boys’ enthusiasm and teamwork were commendable, and they gained plenty of experience for future fixtures.
Wednesday 29th January – U11 Football v King’s Hawford and Winterfold (Mr Jenkinson)
The Year 6 boys also took to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon for a series of exciting football matches. The first match saw a thrilling 1-1 draw against King’s Hawford, with an early long-range goal from Ben. Substitutions allowed all eleven boys in the squad to get a chance to play, and George C, Luca, and Jake provided solid defence. The match ended in a fair 1-1 draw, which both teams accepted with good sportsmanship. The second match against Winterfold started well with Freddy scoring an early goal, but despite strong defensive performances from Uriah, George C, and Ben, Winterfold managed to equalise. However, the boys were pleased with their performance, having scored in both matches and remained unbeaten. A great afternoon of football with much to build on!
