LAMDA Children Shine at Worcester Competitive Arts Festival

On Saturday 15th March the LAMDA students performed at the Worcester Competitive Arts festival.

A superb solo performance of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ from Daisy E started off the day. The clarity of her voice and diction were commended by the adjudicator.  Cassian W stepped on to the stage again as a solo performer. He combated the nerves and gave a strong and confident rendition of his cheeky ‘It Wasn’t Me!’ poem.  We then had the privilege of seeing paired verse performances from Fifi S, Nancy E, Aoife W, Rupert C, Tilly C, Evelyn J, Bonnie W and Isla H.  Everyone was committed to their pieces and were congratulated on their focus, expression and teamwork.

The Year 5 and 6 ended the day with their duologue performances, where they have to perform an extract from a play.  Noah L and Charles C kicked us off with their performance from Oliver! The adjudicator thought they were very well cast and brought a great energy to the stage.  This was followed by Rosie H and Annie W in their chilling scene where their spiteful and mean characters are taught their lesson by Jack Frost when he freezes them together, the girls were applauded for their strong vocal skills and capturing the tension of the scene.

Next up were Jasper P and Charles H encapturing the devasting story of Blood Brothers, their scene shows the moment where Mickey and Eddie meet for the first time, worlds apart and unknowingly twins separated at birth. Both Jasper and Charles gave solid performances demonstrating the class differences between these two characters, through their body language, gestures and vocal abilities.

Following the heavier scenes came a more light-hearted rendition of the two ugly sisters getting ready for the Cinderella ball. Ariana P and Zara O shone throughout their scene demonstrating excellent comic timing and transporting the audience in their bickering world.  They produced some lovely moments of theatre, building the tension and sustaining their characters throughout. Finally, Chloe S and Mary W brought life to two friends who decided to camp out on their own but soon realise that once it’s dark and spooky, the comfort of home is all too alluring.  They successfully created the shifting moods of the piece and commanded the stage.
