Life Skills in Action: Year 6 First Aid and Search & Rescue Training
As part of their Nine Dots Challenge, Year 6 pupils have been developing essential life skills through practical First Aid and Search and Rescue sessions, two experiences that truly put their teamwork, curiosity, and critical thinking to the test.
During the First Aid session, the children learned how to respond calmly and effectively to a range of emergency scenarios. They practised key techniques such as CPR and were introduced to how a defibrillator works, learning the importance of staying calm and taking action in critical situations. The session was both informative and empowering, with pupils showing great maturity and engagement throughout.
In the Search and Rescue activity, pupils worked together to safely move a ‘casualty’ onto a stretcher and navigate obstacles while carrying them, a task that required careful coordination, communication, and trust. The children approached both challenges with enthusiasm and focus, asking thoughtful, insightful questions that deepened their understanding and sparked meaningful discussion.
These sessions not only equipped Year 6 with valuable practical skills but also helped build confidence and reinforce the importance of teamwork and staying calm under pressure.
Well done Year 6, you rose to the challenge brilliantly!
