Lights of Love – Pupils deliver poignant performances
“Lights of Love” Service
On Friday 17th November 2023, the Year Five and Six pupils in Senior Choir performed in the annual St. Richard’s Hospice “Lights of Love” Service in Worcester Cathedral. We are honoured to be invited to perform each year at this special and poignant service, which is held in memory and celebration of loved ones. The service is a time to reflect on, celebrate and remember the wonderful people who have made a difference to our lives, particularly those who are loved and no longer with us: it is the perfect way to pay tribute to those we hold dear. People can dedicate a light in memory or celebration of a loved one, not only those who have a connection with St Richard’s. The cathedral event is always a very moving and comforting occasion, which resonates on a personal level with many people.
The Choir performed three pieces during the service: Ubi Caritas by Sally K Albrecht, Teach Us to Love by Mark Patterson, and Unforgettable by Nat King Cole. Following the service, it was wonderful to hear so much praise from the congregation for the children’s beautiful singing. Everyone enjoyed the occasion and the opportunity to sing in such an incredible acoustic.
St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity, caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis through treatment to their last days, and supporting those important to them. Money raised from “Lights of Love” donations helps support the hospice’s specialist care for people living with a serious progressive illness, their families and bereaved people across Worcestershire. St Richard’s relies on donations and gifts in wills for the majority of its income, with the remainder funded by the NHS.
St Richard’s Hospice has held “Lights of Love” events in Worcestershire for more than twenty years and King’s Hawford have performed in the afternoon service since 2018. We are delighted to have been invited to perform in their 40th Anniversary Celebration Service next year, on 1st May, 2024.
