Mercia Regional Athletics Competition: King’s Hawford Pupils Shine

Last Thursday, the Mercia Regional Athletics Competition took place at Stourport Athletics Club, bringing together talented young athletes from across the region for a day of spirited competition and impressive performances. The event saw participation from 18 enthusiastic Years Five and Six pupils from King’s Hawford, who competed in a range of track and field events, showcasing their athletic prowess and sportsmanship.

One of the standout performances of the day came from Harriet, a Year Six pupil, who excelled in the U12 Girls’ Shot Put. Harriet delivered an outstanding throw of 6.63 meters, securing her qualification for the National Finals. This achievement highlights her dedication and skill in the sport, marking her out as one of the top young athletes in the region. However, despite her remarkable accomplishment and the opportunity to compete on a national stage, Harriet has made the thoughtful decision to forgo the National Finals. The finals are scheduled to take place next Wednesday, but Harriet has chosen to prioritise her Year Six Leavers’ activities, not wanting to miss out on the significant milestones and celebrations with her classmates as they prepare to transition to the next stage of their education.

The Mercia Regional Athletics Competition was a resounding success, offering young athletes the chance to demonstrate their abilities and compete in a supportive and encouraging environment. The event not only celebrated athletic achievements but also fostered a sense of community and teamwork among the participants.

Congratulations go to all the young athletes who took part in the competition, and a special mention to Harriet for her exceptional performance and her thoughtful decision. Their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship have made their schools and the Stourport community immensely proud. We look forward to seeing more from these promising athletes in the future.
