Music fills the air at King’s St Alban’s

The King’s St Alban’s Chapel was filled with music once again on Tuesday afternoon, as Prep School pupils and their parents gathered for our Prep School Informal Concert. As ever, the standard of performance was incredibly high, and it was clear that everyone had worked hard to prepare their pieces. Zara (Year 5) got us off to a wonderful start with her performance of My Once Upon a Time. The rest of the concert was a real feast, with a wide variety of instruments, from guitar and ‘cello to violin, voice, viola, clarinet, double bass, saxophone and piano. The variety of styles of music ensured there was something for everyone, as we enjoyed songs from musicals such as So Long, Farewell (Daisy, Iris and Maddie, Year 3) alongside folk songs(the Skye Boat Song from Romi, Year 4), Ollie Murs (Trouble Maker by Daniel, Year 3), film music (He’s a Pirate from Charlotte, Year 6), and classical pieces such as Heller’s beautiful Prelude in C# minor (George, Year 6).

It was lovely to be able to welcome Millie (Year 6) and Rook (Year 6), to the stage for their debut performances at Informal Concerts. Well done, both of you: you played beautifully!

A few of our regulars also took to the platform for their first performance on new instruments. Rosie W (Year 5) undertook her first singing performance, and Daisy (Year 3), who entertains us regularly on the piano, bravely made her debut singing performance as part of a trio with Iris and Maddy, who was also making her singing debut. This item nearly brought the house down! After only four lessons, Bertie (Year 3) gave his first ever performance on the double bass. It was lovely to see these youngsters branching out and gaining confidence on their new instruments.

Finally, congratulations go to everyone who took part in the concert. You all played brilliantly, and this was a lovely way to end the day. We are already looking forward to the next concert in this year’s series, which will take place in June.
