Music, Movement and Eco-Messages: Pre Prep Visit the CBSO Centre

There was great excitement on Thursday morning as Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 boarded a coach to go to Birmingham. Our destination was the CBSO Centre, where we attended a Key Stage 1 concert given by members of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. After a smooth journey up the M5, we arrived in plenty of time for a drink and a snack, and then it was time for the concert.

The theme of the concert was ‘Eco Super-Heroes’, and the children were thrilled so see the instrumentalists dressed up in super hero capes and masks to perform. The children were taken on a thrilling journey around the world, visiting different habitats that were under threat and fixing them through the power of music to reveal a special hidden message – ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’.

This engaging and interactive concert had everyone up on their feet, singing and dancing and joining in with performances of iconic works by composers such as Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Reich and Pärt. Charlotte and Briony from the CBSO got everyone fully involved, and there was even time to create a special, new body percussion piece using  eco-rhythms the children had learned.

After a fun-packed hour it was time to board the coach again and return to school for lunch. The children’s happy, smiling faces showed just how much they had enjoyed the event, and some of them were still experimenting with the eco-rhythms when we arrived back in Worcester!

This was a very special and memorable trip.
