King's Hawford

19 April

Off to a flying start, celebrating success in Week One!

Despite only returning to school four days ago, the pupils of King’s Hawford had much to celebrate at this week’s Celebration Assembly.

Mr Butt commented on the fabulous super starters in Pre-Prep, also praising Year Three to Year Six, who as always were a real credit to King’s Hawford during the King’s Foundation Cathedral Service held on Thursday morning.  The highlight of the service for him was the magnificent  performance by King’s Hawford’s Senior Choir, whilst Harriet and George, our two readers for the Service, received praise from Mr Maund, Director of Foundation Communications and former Head of English at “Big King’s”.

Moving on to the awards for the week, Joshy (Year Three), Louis (Year Four), Thomas C, Millie and Barnaby (Year Five) and Harry C, Harriet B, Darcy and Ben (Year Six) were all congratulated on achieving five subject merits.

There was an abundance of King’s Hawford Activity Badges awarded this week: Isla, Tanith, Bonnie, Maddie and William were presented with their Eco Badges, Matilda and Isla received their Reading Owl Badges, Sienna her Science Badge, Arthur and Persie their Reading Badges, and finally Nicholas and Charlotte their Times Tables Badges.

Following this, there was an extraordinary number of HMAs to award, some of which were left over from last term!. Rupert (Year Three) received an HMA for a beautiful piece of writing from the perspective of Black Rock whilst Year Five pupils Tom, Henry, Jess, Pip, Sophie, Robin, Olivia, Oliver, Pippa, Marnie, Arthur, Harry, Barnaby, Thea and Freddie all received theirs for a collection of awesome posters on the subject of Buddhism. In Year Six, Henry, Oliver, Sam and Sam were put on the spot to explain their work on Fibonacci and the reason for their award; they provided an excellent explanation, well done! Harriet, also in Year Six, received a second HMA of the week for her Favela work.

In Year Three, there were more HMAs presented to Tilly and Fearne for their excellent account of the Malvern Residential Trip, whilst Chaya received hers for outstanding effort in Maths lessons. Charlie (Year One) received an HMA for his excellent “Wanted” poster, whilst Emily, Chester and Sadie (Year Two) were recognised for exceptional effort and progress in writing. Maddie, also in Year Two, received an award for her fantastic work creating an eco-poster.

For the final item, there was massive anticipation as Mr Stigant stood up to announce the results of the King’s Hawford Tenner Challenge! A drum roll, please…full details can be found here.

A rousing rendition of Shine, Jesus Shine! concluded the assembly, with particularly strong voices to be heard from the Pre-Prep sitting in the front two rows. Harriet read a beautiful prayer, recognising our return to school, friendships, and being grateful for what we have compared to others, especially those children Miss Lane is currently working with in The Gambia.

Finally, the King’s Hawford community came together to wish Robyn and Adelyn a very happy birthday!
