We were delighted to welcome Parents of our Pre-Prep to Year 2 children into school this week for an exciting workshop to build rockets and spaceships from recycled junk.
The aim of the workshop was to provide a creative finish to our ‘Explorers’ topic, during which the children have been learning about significant people from the past, such as Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus. The children have also enjoyed studying key texts including ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram and ‘Jack and the Flum Flum Tree’ by Julia Donaldson.
As well as working together to create the rockets and spaceships, the children were able to show their parents the Apollo Moon (AR APP) on the school IPads, walk on the moon, watch a rocket take off in school and take moon selfies.
Oliver Roberts, Head of Pre-Prep and Year 2 Teacher said: “It’s been wonderful to see the children so engaged with this topic which has truly captured their imaginations and caused great excitement between the year groups. The workshop was a fantastic way to finish the topic and as always the children took great pride in sharing their work with parents and guardians. I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work and participation.”
